Important that things such as Brexit are openly debated
IN RECENT weeks I have followed with interest the debates in the Echo and other media concerning various issues.
Clearly (and predictably) people have profound differences of opinion on matters such as Brexit, creationism versus evolution, the Trump administration and the refugee crisis; it is important for human advancement that these things are openly debated even if definitive conclusions cannot always be reached.
However, throughout Charnwood (and of course elsewhere) there are numerous bodies such as sports clubs, educational institutes, churches, and charities in which people with widely-varying views come together harmoniously for a common purpose.
For example, I organise a group for people experienced in meditation at which the varying attitudes and beliefs of the members never cause friction during our discussions because of the mutual respect shown by all (anyone interested in Charnwood Meditation Group, a not-for-profit community group, can phone me on 01509 506585 for details).
It is essential in all human interaction that whilst we accept our differences we also realise we have much more in common than that which divides us.
As Albert Einstein advised us long ago, remember your humanity above anything else.
