WEST BRIDGFORD 2 LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN 2ND XI 3

AFTER an excellent result last week against Cannock and the return of Lewis Ratcliff, Loughborough came into the game against West Bridgford in high spirits and unbeaten in six.

Loughborough withstood the early pressure the home side had to offer and a resulting breakaway, with good work down the right, led to in form striker and man of the match Sam Curd slotting home.

Town soon doubled their lead with a well worked short corner leading to Lewis Ratcliff sweeping the ball over the line.

West Bridgford hit straight back converting a well struck penalty corner, but Town ended the half 2-1 ahead with the defensive line of Patel, Ottewell and Keeper Dhutia keeping Bridgford at bay.

The second half was much like the first with both sides struggling to put moves together. Eventually an error by Adam Lamb, who was turned over in his own half, led to an equalising goal for Bridgford.

With Bridgford needing a win to stay in the league they piled forward and set the game up for a tense finish.

However, it was Loughborough who triumphed with a match winning goal by Ratcliff with three minutes remaining.

A great away win by Loughborough Town has ended West Bridgford’s 12 year stay in the top division who are now effectively relegated.

On Saturday, Loughborough Town host Olton and West Warwick where a win will take them in to fifth place in the top flight league and cement their place as one of the best 2nd Xl teams in the country.
