Whitewash victory puts Students A in the driving seat to clinch Division One crown

-

STUDENTS A have now emerged as firm favourites to win the Loughborough and District Table Tennis League’s First Division title after 14 of their 18 matches.

A commanding 6-0 victory over strugglers Students C means it is difficult to see how they can be overhauled providing they fulfil all their fixtures.

Ross MacNiven and Anshul Satsangi, who have both been in fine form all season, were in no mood to let up against club mates Hal Goodliffe and Joe Hume as they took all six sets without conceding a game.

The only team who have realistic hopes of pipping the Students are Unicorn Avocets, who with a couple of games in hand, could get within five points. They would then need a big victory when the two title contenders meet for a third and final time.

The División Two title has long since been a procession for the youngsters of Draycott Devils, who are still unbeaten with just three matches to play. Connor Green was defeated for the first time this campaign in his own top of the table clash with Joe Kirkup, of Students D. The pair sit at the head of the individual averages with Connor leading the way on 96 per cent.

Hugglescote Hornets are two points clear in second spot, aided by Draycott Dynamos falling to a 4-2 defeat at Unicorn Curlews.

Students D improved their chances of overhauling Charnwood Blockers by picking up a couple of points from a 4-2 reverse at Charnwood Aggressors, courtesy of another double from Joe Kirkup.

Charnwood Choppers still lead Division Three but the title could be snatched from their grasp when they meet second placed Charnwood Drivers for a second time on March 22.
