Would be simpler to collect all bulk items

-

THERE has been much reported recently in the media (television and newspapers) about the increasing amount of flytipping being carried out. As well as locally (as reported on Midlands Today – BBC1) also nationally - this appears to be of epidemic proportions.

Whilst this is anti-social and costs local authorities an increasing amount in money, labour and costs, wouldn’t it be simpler for local authorities to collect all bulk items, those that cannot be moved by residents because: a) limited vehicle size; b): weight of items; c) age and mobility of residents?

I have recently contacted two local councillors (one a Tory councillor, who did respond and said he would’ look into it’ but hasn’t, and the other a Labour councillor, who has not responded.

Having been advised they could collect, Charnwood Borough Council one day later informed me they couldn’t collect because ‘we don’t collect this’.

Has ‘La-La Land’ arrived in Loughborough? You couldn’t make it up – well you could but who would believe you.

Charnwood will apparently collect some large items but not all, even if they are not as large or seemingly cumbersome as some of the ‘approved’ items. This would to some extent encourage people to fly-tip.

Why don’t Charnwood broaden their thinking on waste management and collect heavy, cumbersome items. This would actually cut overall costs, encourage people to waste manage more effectively and keep the borough clean and attractive.

Instead of complaining about the costs, look closer to Southfields and see what savings could be made there!

Also, has no-one in Charnwood appreciated that the more houses and estates you build the more waste will be generated? P J Kerry Allendale Road
