WEDDING WEEKEND. A major event is planned at Diseworth St Michael and All Angels Parish Church in July when a Wedding Weekend is to be staged.

The event takes place over the first weekend in the month, on Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2, with both the church and the village hall involved in the activities.

The church itself will stage displays of wedding flowers, photos and wedding dresses while on the Sunday there will be a Wedding Lunch in the Village Hall, and in the afternoon a service for everyone, but especially for those who have been married over the years in Diseworth Church.

Some help is needed to ensure the event is staged to the best advantage, and a plea is being made for anyone who has any ‘dressmaker’s dummies’ mannekins they would be prepared to lend out to display the wedding dresses on, and the invite also extends

to anyone who might like to sponsor a flower arrangement in the church.

Say the organisers: “If you have been married in Diseworth church, could you loan your wedding dress for display?” with a rider they will be limited for space so may not be able to display all the dresses if they get a huge response.

Attempts are being made to contact all those couple who have been married in Diseworth but if anyone knows of those who were married there but no loner live in the village please could you ask them to contact Sue Bird on s_bird02@yahoo.co.uk with their contact details. Sue on 01332 810381 or Muriel Howe on 01332 850338 are the contacts for anyone who can help at all with the event.

COFFEE MORNING. Long Whatton based True Vine Trust for Tanzania have a Coffee Morning on Saturday this weekend, March 25, starting at 10am at The Friendship Centre in Long Whatton.

There will be Bric a brac, cakes, jams and an update on the Trust from the organiser local resident Nadine Hawkins who can be reached on 01509 646957

Nadine, the Trust Founder, says everyone is very welcome to join them to support their cause, with the money raised going to funds for the Mgutwa Secondary School in the Maasai Steppe in Tanzania.

The Trust helps the indigent people in the areas of Arusha and the Maasai Steppe of Tanzania.

The village based charity is a small local one supporting the poor in healthcare, education, vocational needs and mission.

Says Nadine: “The running costs and construction of Mgutwa Secondary School is supported by the Trust. Many of these students would be too poor to enter a secondary school, giving them a chance to a future.”

Mrs Hawkins says that several of the 300 students are orphaned or are suffering illness. “They perform so well in their exams, and appreciate -- as we do -- the dedicated staff at the school. Sponsors would be an ideal way to support the students.”

The money raised will be helping to raise funds towards much needed bunk beds and mattresses for the school. Currently several students have to share beds or even have to sleep on the floor. “Funding for a teachers house and completing construction of the dining hall, will be where the much appreciated funds will be used,” says Nadine.
