New problems at Toothill Road
MORE issues at a council-owned block of flats in Loughborough have been brought to the attention of the Echo following an article that appeared in newspapers.
Two residents have been in touch with the Echo after a story was published telling of how the blocks of flats on Toothill Road have been opening their curtains to the site of scaffolding for the past 20 months.
The Echo has been contacted by the daughter of an 80-year-old resident who says they are facing a number of issues.
She said: “My father struggles to get up the stairs so we requested that the county council have a stair lift fitted which they got the borough council to do last Tuesday but no one has shown him how to use it.
“And my father’s intercom doesn’t work and this has been a problem we’ve faced for four years, he has to come downstairs to open the door and he really struggles getting up and down - hence the stair lift.
“The council have been to fix the intercom 20 to 30 times and it just breaks again.
“There’s also a fencing problem. Storm Doris took the fencing out near one of the flat blocks and the council have still not done anything about it. “Something needs to be done.” The Echo has also been contacted by a resident to report more scaffolding had gone up outside the flats.
A spokesperson for Charnwood Borough Council said: “Work started at the flats on April 18 and scaffolding has been erected to allow this work to be carried out.
“We have arranged to visit the resident regarding his stair lift to provide assistance and advice for how to use it.
“The fencing which has blown down is on council-owned land and we will repair it on May 18.
“We’re aware that there have been ongoing problems with the intercom not working and we’ve been out to fix it on a number of occasions.
“We are continuing to investigate what’s causing the issue so that it can be fixed.”
