Name change for HR&EC charity

- By Zoe Higgins zoe.higgins@trinitymirror.com

HUMAN Rights & Equalities Charnwood has changed its name and is now looking for three new volunteer directors to help it achieve its “ambitious goals”.

The charity, which was established in 1969 to promote equality, diversity, dignity and respect through inclusion, will now be known as Equality Action.

It is governed by a board of directors and at the forthcoming annual gen- eral meeting is seeking to recruit three new voluntary directors to join that governance team.

The charity is particularly interested in recruiting an assistant treasurer who will work closely with the treasurer on financial matters.

The new people will join an existing team of nine who are responsible for ensuring that the charity runs effectively.

Equality Action chair Justin O’Brien said: “We have been through an exciting year with a review of our work and overall governance.

“This has included changing our name and rebranding.

“Our aims are to work towards eliminating discrimination, campaigning for equality of opportunity and promoting good relations between all persons in the borough of Charnwood.

“We are looking forward to welcoming new recruits to our board who will help us achieve our ambitious goals.”

Equality Action is keen to recruit people with backgrounds in organisational leadership and development, finance, fund-raising and income generation, business development, and community development.

Previous experience of charity involvement is not essential but it is important that applicants have a genuine interest in the charity’s work.
