A 29-YEAR-OLD man who sexually assaulted a woman as she slept on a coach has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Admir Senaj sat next to the victim as they were travelling on a coach from London to Nottingham.

Police were called to the scene after the victim raised the alarm with other passengers on the coach and the driver stopped close to junction 23 of the M1 near Loughborough and Shepshed.

The court heard how during the journey on November 13 last year, the 24-year-old victim fell asleep and was woken to find Senaj sexually assaulting her.

Senaj appeared at Leicester Crown Court for a four-day trial and was found guilty of assault by penetration on Thursday, April 27, and sentenced to four years in prison.

He will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for life and has been given a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

After the coach stopped close to junction 23, Senaj fled the scene, running across the motorway carriageway where he was captured on dashcam by a driver on the motorway.

To identify and locate the suspect, detectives trawled more than 20 hours of CCTV, carried out forensic examinations of items retrieved from the bus and conducted extensive enquiries across Leicestershire, Nottingham and London.

Senaj was located and arrested at his home address of Alexandre Road, Barnet, London, on December 6.

The officer who led the investigation, DC Dan Robberts, said: “Senaj preyed on a young woman while she was in a vulnerable state and was brazen enough to do so surrounded by other people on a busy coach.

“He then fled the scene when he realised the police had been called.

“More than 150 hours of police time went into finding out who this man was.

“The complex investigation took officers across the country in order to locate, arrest and bring him to justice for this horrendous crime.

“I hope the guilty verdict will be some sort of closure for the victim.”
