Lads versus dads

CHOIR practice at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Loughborou­gh was cancelled for one week only to allow a challenge match to be played between the lads and their dads.

And in spite of a 40 years age difference between the teams the match ended in a 5-3 victory for the dads.

Kings Athletic victory

KINGS Athletic football team based in Loughborou­gh clinched promotion to Alliance Division One after winning the division two title in 1967.

Members of the successful team were: Tony Green, Colin Wood, Tony Hickinbott­om, Eddie Orton, Pete Haltham, Pete Murphy, John Davey, Albert Chapman, Dave McAspurn, Rod Peacock, Grahame Mould (captain) Phil Biddles and John Noble.

Edward Moore’s 101st

AN ANSTEY man celebrated his 101st birthday and put his long life down to “hard work and good grub.”

Mr Edward Moore, of Albion Street, Anstey, rose to a special delivery of birthday cards and a small tot of whiskey in his tea and he said: “I do not feel my age, it was just like any other ordinary day”. as he received cards including one from son Harold in New Zealand.

Rosebery sports day

ROSEBERY County Junior School’s annual sports were held on the Cumberland Road playing fields.

Winner of the first year boys 50 yards race was R. Cowper, and winner of the girls was N. Strachan. Winner of the first year sack race was A. Vincent and the girls skipping was C. Grist.

In first place in the second year boys 60 yard race was D. Clarke and the girls winner was E. Brearley, and in the second year boys sack race the winner was M. Catherall.
