Not great at maths but surely 85 per cent opposed to hunting qualifies as ‘many’

-

WHEN she became Prime Minister, Theresa May said that her government would govern ‘for the many and not for the privileged few’.

This sounded novel as this is not what the Tories are famous for. Indeed, it seemed to imply that precisely the opposite was what they had done in the past. It should be self -evident that all governments should rule for the many, although sadly this is often not the case.

Her statement was in fact a cynical attempt to lure voters by appearing to want to occupy the centre ground. This was backed before she took over by stealing a couple of policies from the Labour manifesto. They increased the minimum wage. In the current election they have done it again.

When Labour planned to put a cap on energy prices, everybody and his dog said it was a bad policy. The Tories have the same plan and suddenly the opposition has completely disappeared.

The Tories are not a centre party and never will be.

The definitive proof is that May and Leadsom are proposing a repeal of the hunting ban. 85 per cent of the electorate support this ban.

The barbaric practice of hunting and killing foxes and stags is predominantly perpetrated by the very ’privileged few’ that May mentioned in the above quote. If those bloodthirsty buffoons are not the ‘privileged few’, then who is?

The next government will have much to do to sort out the chaos as we hurtle off the precipice like little England lemmings into the North Atlantic. They should leave the hunting ban in place and should in fact strengthen it to stop the barbarians getting away with illegal hunting because of the difficulty of proving intent.

I’m not great at maths but 85 per cent seems to me to qualify pretty well as the ‘many’. Put your policy where your mouth is, Mrs May. Keith Harris Labour Councillor for Dishley and Hathern
