Brodsky Quartet prepare to perform at Cope
A WORLD-renowned quartet, who have worked with the likes of Björk, Elvis Costello and Jacqui Dankworth, will be performing at Loughborough University’s Cope Auditorium.
On Wednesday, May 31, the Brodsky Quartet will be playing a programme that consists of work by JS Bach, Mendelssohn, Shostakovich and Beethoven.
Since forming in 1972, they have performed over 3,000 concerts, released more than 60 recordings and have toured major festivals and venues throughout Australasia, North and South America, Asia, South Africa, and Europe.
Featuring Daniel Rowland and Ian Belton on violin, Paul Cassidy on viola, and Jacqueline Thomas on cello, the quartet has a natural curiosity and an insatiable desire to explore, which has propelled them in a number of artistic directions.
The UK-based quartet are prominent on the international chamber music scene, attracting numerous awards and accolades worldwide, as well as many outstanding live reviews.
In 1996 Björk asked the quartet to make an arrangement of one of her songs, namely, Hyperballad.
The success of that arrangement and the chemistry between the musicians led to 23 more arrangements and several concert appearances.
The quartet have also worked with Elvis Costello, writing Juliet Letters together in 1992.
He’s appeared in two of the musicians’ subsequent albums and they have appeared on two of his.
The quartet, who take their name from the great Russian violinist Adolf Brodsky, the dedicatee of Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto and a passionate chamber musician, will be taking to the Loughborough stage at 7.30pm.
