Bowlers in top form as Quorn win again

-

AFTER last week’s defeat of tabletopping Newtown Linford, Quorn faced bottom side Walton le Wolds.

As the teams arrived, the rain was falling, making the outfield very damp, but the square was well protected and as soon as the rain abated, play was possible.

Walton won the toss and unsurprisingly asked Quorn to bat, in a game reduced to 30 overs a side. Richard Sharp (16) and Andy Kenneth (14) got the innings off to a brisk start before both were defeated by the extra bounce of Pimm (2-21) to leave Quorn 42-2 after 12 overs.

With the outfield holding the ball, the Quorn batsmen had to be satisfied with running ones and twos. It was not until the 21st over that the boundary was finally reached when Will Huish, send in at number 5 to speed up the scoring rate, smashed a huge six over long on. Huish joining Richard Cooper (36) scored a whirlwind 22 ball 44 as the pair put on 52 runs in just six and a half overs. It was left to Andy Stovel (14) and Tom Errington (11) to get the innings past the 150 mark, reaching 152-7 when their 30 overs expired.

The Walton reply was immediately derailed by Ross Errington who took the first four wickets as the home side tumbled to 28-4.

Bowling with fierce pace and getting some late inswing, Errington had the Walton batsmen in all sorts of trouble, eventually finishing his eight overs, taking 5-20.

Once Errington had removed the spine of the batting lineup, the lower order collapsed meekly, losing six wickets for 13 runs. Jack Child (2-14) and Andy Kenneth (3-1) polished off the tail as Walton subsided to just 41 all out.

Next week, Quorn will hope to continue their recent good form, when they host Maher Stars.
