Does anybody care about those in ‘golden triangle’?

-

DOES anybody in authority care for the Council Tax paying residents living in the so called “Golden Triangle?” A title given not by the residents but by the estate agents, who makes a good profit from this area like the invisible landlords.

Now that the end of university academic year is approaching, many landlords will begin refurbishing the houses ready for the next academic year. Our pavements will be full of discarded furniture, black bags, etc until we the residents ring the Council Cleansing Department.

The Street Wardens will be walking through the mess without moving an eyelid. However, they do not hesitate to issue a ticket for a visitor to a resident, who exceeds 10 or 15 minutes - this rule did not apply to the builders who were renovating the houses, who not only took over the pavements but also parking spaces, in the last few weeks.

I wish our councillors would take the trouble to walk the streets of this so called Golden Triangle during term times to see the number of black and green bins obstructing the pavements and bins not emptied, rotting with household garbage. Also, numbers of black bin bags dumped on the pavements.

I also hope our councillors will visit our streets in the next few months, when the refurbishment of the houses starts. There are two or three bedroom houses, made into six bedroom dwellings. Is this acceptable?

When refurbishment begins, the dust and noise we have to endure is beyond belief. We cannot go to our little gardens or use our clothes lines for our washing. I have no doubt it is also a health issue for residents suffering with asthma and chest problems.

In addition, we have to endure during the night the loud music and constant noise of the students returning from pubs and night clubs. Some letting agents advertised their properties as Party Houses. It is time the councillors and responsible authorities take note of the sufferings of the residents.

Time has come for all parties to seriously consider the licensing of all landlords. This will give the power to the council to act and also will identify the landlords, who do not pay Council Tax as the occupants are students.

Furthermore, this will also help HMRC to assess the tax bill for these earnings.

We have had our county council, elections and soon we will have the General Election. Then it will be the Charnwood Borough Council elections.

I hope all candidates will not ask for our vote but will tell us, as to why we should vote for them. S Siriwardena Resident in the “Golden Triangle” for over 35 years.
