Victories for the top three in Monday Division One while White Plum stay top of Division Two table

-

THE top three teams all won in the Loughborough & District Bowls League Monday League Division1.

Leaders Wymeswold Wolds travelled to East Leake to play Willows and returned home 68-42 (6-2) victors, whilst Shepshed Rams made the trip to Birstall where they were also successful, beating St Margarets Maggies in a close game 46-43 (6-2). Third placed Syston Fosseway entertained Birstall Lighthouse and won 52-41 (6-2). Queens Park Queens found their green waterlogged and have rearranged the game with Phoenix Pegasus for June 18.

Syston White Plum continue with their run of good results when they collected all the points on their travels to Belgrave Cygnets 56-39 (8-0) to stay top of Division 2, and with second placed Quorn Weavels match with Thringstone Woodpeckers also a casualty of the weather, Greenfields Badgers took the opportunity to move above them thanks to a 72-32 (6-2) win over Brush Hawks.

Brush Peregrines moved off the foot of the table following their 47-44 (6-2) victory over St Margarets Saints at Nanpantan.

Division 3 leaders Kegworth were without a game this week and Birstall Sands had already played their game with Rothley Crusaders the previous week, so Soar Valley Avons found themselves the only movers as a result of their 56-43 (6-2) win over fellow club team Merlins. Greenfield Foxes could only raise two rinks but still proved too good for Phoenix Kingfishers taking the game 42-36 (5-3) but will forfeit two points for fielding an incomplete team.

Sileby Swallows are the new leaders in Division 4 despite losing at home 53-60 (2-6) to Fosseway Romans whilst Belgrave Ringers hang on to second place after they also lost on their travels 46-52 (2-6) to Syston Green and Royals. A tale of woe for Soar Valley Conways who needed the points against Shepshed Lambs to try to get off the bottom of the table, but despite winning the game 39-36 (6-2) they lose two points for fielding an incomplete team.

Only one game was scheduled for the Thursday Trophy Preliminary round, and that was at East Leake where Division 2 Willows proved to be too strong for Division 3 Soar Valley Valoars winning comfortably 101-45 (10-0) to secure themselves a home tie against Division 1 side Brush Eagles on July 13.

In the Loughborough Bowling Association Champion of Champions, Steve Wain of Belgrave BC moved into the next round with a hard fought away win against Geoff Hall of Rothley BC and will now play the winner of James Alcock (Brush BC) and Dave Griffin (Queens Park BC) in the quarter final.
