Students prepare for gala show at Royal Albert Hall

-

LOUGHBOROUGH theatre students are to take to the Royal Albert Hall stage in front of an audience of 4,000 for a gala performance.

On Sunday, September 24, 32 youngsters from Loughborough Theatretrain will be singing, acting and dancing in the show that celebrates the national performing arts organisation’s 25th anniversary.

The students, whose ages range between six and 18-years-old, will be performing original drama pieces written by Theatretrain about the suffragettes movement, The Tolpuddle Martyrs (1834).

They will also street dance to Michael Jackson’s Black or White as part of the two-and-a- half-hour performance and perform the Blues Brothers Medley, Mr Blue Sky, and Diamonds are Forever.

Since 1992, Theatretrain has aimed to provide high quality training for young people in the performing arts and offer first class opportunities to perform in local and national theatres.

All students have the opportunity to perform in local and London West End productions annually and former students can currently be seen in the TV series Waterloo Road, West End’s Les Miserable, at Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and in iPhone 6 advertisements.

Theatretrain is supported by a number of well known actors including Catherine Tate, Alfred Molina and Sir Derek Jacobi.

Speaking of the upcoming performance, Kate Hines, Loughborough Theatretrain centre director, said: “It’s going to be an amazing experience.

“It’s a great way to build their confidence and learn to work as a team. It’s also good for children who want to go on to bigger things as they can put it on their CVs.

“We’ve been rehearsing for this since January. We’re very excited.”

Loughborough Theatretrain classes take place on Saturday mornings 9.30am-12.30pm at Limehurst Academy.
