Back to nature
MEMBERS of Sileby Photographic Society met on Monday, 4th September for their first meeting of the new year 2017-18.
The meeting comprised a pre-recorded audio visual presentation which had been produced by the Royal Photographic Society, and consisted of the best images entered by members of their Nature group, and which had appeared in their recent Annual Competition.
Superb digital images and prints, monochrome and colour, were shown which covered many aspects contained within the subject of Nature. Flora, fauna, fungi, insects, birds, moths and butterflies, animals, large and small, and a representative selection of sea creatures were included, and demonstrated near perfection of the photographers’ skills when capturing such images on camera.
As has become customary, Gianpiero Ferrari, FRPS, DPAGB, FBPE, Sileby’s renowned nature photographer, once again received well deserved recognition of his work, having seven digital images and six digital prints selected for inclusion within the Exhibition, an impressive achievement in itself.
Five of his images were awarded a ‘highly commended’ by the judging panel, with one outstanding image receiving a Selector’s individual award, indicating that Gianpiero continues to be a force to be reckoned with in his chosen sphere of nature photography.
All in all, this had been a superb evening of photography, with some of the best photographers displaying great examples of their work and had provided an excellent start to Sileby’s new programme of events throughout the coming year.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, 18th September when Paul Bingham, visiting lecturer, will present digital images under the title ‘Getting There by Land, Sea and Air’.
Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm and are held at the Sileby Community Centre. The Society does have its own comprehensive website, the address of which is www.silebyps.org.uk
