Six of the best in a big win for Shepshed Dynamo

-

STOURPORT SWIFTS 0 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 6 SHEPSHED Dynamo scored six goals for the second consecutive Saturday, this time in the Midland Football League away at Stourport Swifts.

The result, after a narrow 1-0 defeat at Lye Town in midweek, moved Dynamo back to third in the league table ahead of next Saturday’s FA Cup tie against two leagues above side Nantwich Town at The Dovecote.

Shepshed were always in control of the game and after they had doubled their lead early in the second half, never looked in danger of losing.

Like a majority of the games so far this season, Shepshed were straight into the action, Shay Brennan pulling the ball back to Liam Hurst but his effort was wide in the first minute. A minute later and Dominic Richards did well to tip over Liam Read’s shot.

Shepshed continued to press, Liam Hurst fouled just outside of the penalty area. Hurst’s free kick was blocked by Jim Hanson and cleared by Matt Fulloway.

Stourport’s first chance of the game came on 13 minutes but didn’t trouble Denham Hinds as Drew Canavan’s effort went wide.

Dynamo’s early pressure paid off on 18 minutes, Hurst’s cross was met by the head of Michael Reeve who headed back across goal beating Richards, the ball hitting the inside of the right hand post and what seemed like an age went across the goal line and in off the foot of the left hand post.

Niall Prenderville then put Brennan through on 23 minutes but Richards was alert to clear the danger.

Swift’s best chance of the half came on 27 minutes after a foul by Prenderville, Canavan’s free kick just went over the crossbar.

Shepshed controlled the remainder of the half but without adding to their tally. Jake Betts and Adam Hohn were unlucky with headers on 30 minutes and Richards saved from Read on 38 minutes.

Reeves then pulled the ball back to Hurst but his effort was dragged wide on 40 minutes as Dynamo took just the solitary goal into the break.

Shepshed continued to dominate the game in the second half Read firing over on 48 minutes, Richards saving from Brennan on 51 minutes and Josh Hill dragging the ball wide shortly afterwards.

Dynamo doubled their lead on 55 minutes, Brennan latching onto Reeves’ flick on and coolly rounding Richards to slot into the Swifts’ goal.

Two minutes later it was Shepshed’s third and Brennan’s second of the game, Brennan again picking his spot as he went round Richards again.

Stourport looked for a foothold into the game but Aaron Lloyd was off target on 59 minutes and 67 minutes and Canavan’s shot was saved by Hinds on 66 minutes.

Shepshed’s captain Betts made it four on 75 minutes, heading home from a corner, and three minutes later after only being on the field for one minute, Luke Richards headed in Dynamo’s fifth.

Shepshed were buoyant and looking for further goals. Alex Troke replacing Brennan had an effort blocked on 82 minutes.

The sixth goal came on 83 minutes, a low drive from Hurst through a crowd of players beating Richards from 25 yards.

Troke then had a further effort blocked from Karl Whymark’s corner on 85 minutes.

Their could have been further goals with Read’s long distance shot saved by Richards on 87 minutes, Richards again saving from Troke on 89 minutes and as the game went into injury time there were further efforts from Troke, Whymark, Reeve and Richards.

A dominant and all-round perfect performance from Shepshed who now have no game in midweek, with Nantwich Town the visitors to The Dovecote Stadium on Saturday in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

Team: Hinds, Hohn, Read, Preston, Betts, Prenderville (Harris 63), Whymark, Hurst, Brennan (Troke 67), Reeve, Hill (Richards 77).
