Driver taken to hospital after collision at town junction

A DRIVER was taken to hospital after a collision at a Shepshed junction.

East Midlands Ambulance Service told the Echo that it received at call at 8.01am on Tuesday, September 19 to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles at the junction of Nanpantan Road and Charley Road in Shepshed.

A spokespers­on said: “We received a call at 8.01am to the junction of Nanpantan Road and Charley Road in Shepshed.

“The caller reported that there had been a road traffic collision between two vehicles.

“A crewed ambulance was sent to the scene and a patient was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary.”

Police told the Echo that it received an emergency call at 7.41am to a collision between two vehicles at the junction and that Charley Road was then blocked and reopened at 9.26am.

A spokespers­on from Leicesters­hire Police said that a driver of one of the vehicles involved in the collision was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The county council told the Echo in July that an accident investigat­ion is being undertaken at the junction of Charley Road and Nanpantan Road to assess what measures, if any, can be undertaken to improve safety.

According to the county council there has been seven injury accidents between May 2012 and April 2017 at the Charley Road/ Nanpantan Road junction.
