Bloom gold again - I don’t think a town council do a better job

-

I WAS interested to read in your letters last week that Cllr Hunt believes Loughborough’s parks could be better run by a town council.

Clearly he must be unaware that Loughborough has again yet again won gold and the best small city category in East Midlands in Bloom. In fact it’s the seventh time we have won gold and the category since 2009.

It also seems to have slipped Coun Hunt’s memory that we resurrected our commitment to Loughborough in Bloom following Labour’s cancellation of the project.

He must also be unaware that the outstanding Queen’s Park and the wonderful Outwoods have both received the Green Flag Award for their high standards for nine straight years, again showing the our whole hearted commitment to our parks, play areas, and woodlands.

Could a town council do a better job? I don’t think so. The borough council is perfectly capable of managing the parks and play areas and we have the evidence to prove it.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the Bloom effort, including staff at the council, our partners Idverde and Serco and the Loughborough Echo. The community also plays a crucial part in the support they offer.

Loughborough in Bloom is a proper team effort and the town and the borough are reaping the rewards. Well done everyone.

Councillor Hilary Fryer Cabinet lead member for Open Spaces and Leisure Services
