Away derby success for Boro Ladies

WEST BRIDGFORD 10 LOUGHBOROUGH LADIES 39

LOUGHBOROUGH Ladies , looking to make amends after narrowly losing their opening fixture , made the short trip to Nottingham for the local derby against West Bridgford.

For the first 15 minutes both sides

were playing a cautious game with Loughborough making the most of the early plays but a stubborn home defence halted further progress.

Bridgford opted in the opening exchanges to try and run the ball out from well inside their own half but Loughborough’s speed off the line gave them little to create anything from and it was Loughborough who opened the scoring through centre Alex Macdonald.

It was pretty much one way traffic from this point with the next try coming from captain Danni Allen, Maria Crowfoot added the extras to give Boro a 12-0 lead after 20 minutes.

A converted try from Billie Rae Smallman made it 19-0 and a trademark break by centre Maria Crowfoot put full back Emma Dootson through to give the visitors a 24-0 half time lead.

After the break further scores made it 34-0 before Loughhborough lost a bit of shape and West Bridgford capitalised on this period scoring two tries and converting one, a quick reminder that they were not going to go down without a fight.

Regaining composure Loughborough had the last words with probably the best worked try straight off the training ground, finished by Emma Dootson to secure a 39-10 victory.

Next Sunday Loughborough host newcomers Sheffield Ladies, at Derby Road playing fields with a 2.30pm kick off.
