Glory for Sileby Town but it’s relegation for Rothley

-

SILEBY Town are celebrating their first league title for 35 years despite slipping to defeat in their final match of the campaign against Barkby.

In a match which was effectively meaningless for both sides, Barkby won by 123 runs posting a total of 330-8 before bowling out Sileby for 207.

It didn’t detract from a great season for Sileby who won the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League Premier Division title by a massive 73 points ahead of Kibworth who were runners-up and Kegworth who finished third on their return to the Premier Division.

Loughborough Town finished fourth and Barrow Town ended inn eighth place.

At the other end of the table, Rothley suffered relegation in their 200th anniversary year, in part due to a series of point deductions for fielding an ineligible player in five matches.

In Division One, Newtown Linford just missed out on promotion in third place, while Sileby Town 2nd XI finished fifth, Cropston eighth and Loughborough Town 2nd XI just avoided relegation in 10th place. Loughborough Carillon won promotion to Division One after winning the Division Two title by a single point ahead of Electricity Sports but in Division Three Mountsorrel Castle were relegated despite victory in their final match of the season against Leicester Caribbean.

In the other divisions, there was promotion for Loughborough Greenfields as runners-up in Division Four West, Sileby Town 3rd XI as runners-up in Division Four Central, Hathern Old as winners of Division Six West, Sileby Town 4th XI as winners of Division Nine Central and Newtown Linford 3rd XI as winners of Division Nine West.
