Dog show comes to town
THOUSANDS of people and their pooches had a pawsitively pawsome day at the Loughborough Family Fun Dog show.
The town centre was converted into a Crufts like arena for the afternoon on Sunday, September 17 as dogs and their owners took part in a number of different classes including: Best rescue, best pedigree, best mixed breed, prettiest female, handsomest male, best puppy (under one year), best veteran (8 and over), waggiest tail, lookalike (dog that looks like owner) and dog fancy dress.
The dog show is run by College Garth Kennels in Hathern, Love Loughborough BID and sponsored by Paws Grooming salon.
This year four-legged friends were judged by Cecile Swann from Vets for Pets.
College Garth Kennels has cared for stray dogs from local authorities for 25 years.
During this time over 10,000 dogs have gone through their doors, but thankfully a lot of those were re-united with their owners, sadly however, some are not.
College Garth look at new homes for unwanted dogs, providing assessments on the dogs and home checks on the prospective owners to try and ensure both stay together.
Les- Cope Newman, Chairman of the Love Loughborough BID told the Echo: “It was an absolutely fantastic day, and it is getting bigger and better every year.
“It was great once again having the show in the town centre and it meant that there was even more for all the family to do.
“We had a great turnout and the footfall figures showed that we had 11,000 people in the town centre on Sunday so it just shows how popular the whole event really is.
“Stacey (Pepper) from College Garth Kennels did a fantastic job organising the show, and it really was a brilliant day, and we can’t wait for next year’s one already.”
