YOU’D BE MADE UP WITH THIS NY BEAUTY

-

I t makes sense that the founder of one of the world’s biggest cosmetic brands would surround herself with beauty. And that’s exactly what happened when Florence M Lewis, otherwise known as Elizabeth Arden, purchased No 4 Sutton Square in the 1930s.

The stunning five-storey townhouse in an exclusive development in New York and features mahogany panelling, galleried landings and stunning river views.

“The most unique aspect is that it is one of the 18 homes with exclusive access to the Sutton Square park, overlooking the East River,” says agent Michael Passaro of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.

Built in 1921, this enclave of exclusive properties has been home to other well-known residents such as Aristotle Onassis, the heiress Anne Vanderbilt and Anne Morgan, the daughter of financier JP Morgan.

Elizabeth Arden’s former home is currently owned by former Abercrombie and Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries. Since buying the house in 2006, Jeffries commissioned renowned architect Daniel Romualdez to carry out a three-year restoration project on the historic property.

The 4,000 sq ft house now features four luxurious bedrooms – two of which have cashmere-covered walls – four bathrooms, huge windows overlooking the manicured communal gardens and a split-level library on the top floor. There is plenty of room for staff, too, with the chef’s kitchen in the basement and top of the range appliances.

The property is for sale at $16 million via Douglas Elliman Real Estate (00 1 917 806 8213).
