Music fund-raiser aiming to put Fearon Hall firmly on the map

AN UPCOMING live music event looks to raise money for Fearon Hall and put it firmly on the map as a venue for talented performers.

On Saturday, October 7, musicians from the area will be heading to Rectory Road, Loughborough, for The BIG Fearon Fundraiser which looks to raise funds for the ongoing maintenance of the hall along with the cost of putting on future events.

Though many are aware of the creative history of Fearon Hall, which was built in 1889 to celebrate the memory of Henry Fearon, Archdeacon of Leicester and Rector of All Saints with Holy Trinity Parish Church, musicians Emzae and Simon Waldram believe it remains an underrated music venue .

“My first proper gig was at Fearon Hall,” says Emzae, recounting the time she was invited to play with Simon and Loughborough musician Autumn Dawn Leader as part of Fearon’s monthly “Rafters are Ringing” live music nights.

She continued: “It was the perfect venue to start out in.

“It’s got a wonderful friendly atmosphere as soon as you walk in, and especially for new artists it’s a safe environment to test out your material on an audience.”

After her performance at Rafters are Ringing, Emzae and Simon were given the opportunity to use the hall for regular rehearsals - free of charge.

Emzae, real name Emma Shaw, (23), said: “The generosity of the people who run Fearon Hall is incredible. A couple of months ago, they offered us the chance to put on a gig here, saying we could take 100 per cent of the profits and they’d even provide a bar.

“I was lost for words. Me and Simon decided that we had to make this a fun- draising gig to give something back.

“The hall is a beautiful space to hold an event, and it would be a tragedy if they ever had to close it off.

“We hope that our gig can help contribute towards the restoration of the roof, which has been letting water in, and also help to build a reputation of Fearon as one of the best live music venues in Loughborough.”

Doors open to the The BIG Fearon Fundraiser at 7.30pm. The line-up includes musicians Emzae, Simon Waldram, Jessica Urwin, Les Hayden and Rosie Abbott.

Advance tickets are £3 each, and anyone wanting a link to book online should visit: www.facebook.com/ emzaemusic - there are 100 on sale, with any leftover tickets available on the door for £4.

With the expected popularity of the event, it is advisable to book in advance. All proceeds raised will be given directly to Fearon Hall.
