THE winner of this year’s Best Dressed Christmas Window Display in Shepshed has been announced.

Shepshed Town Council chairman Coun Claire Poole and vice chair Coun Jane Lennie visited businesses around the town in their bid to find the 2017 winner of the long-standing competition, which has become a tradition in the town.

The 2017 crown was given to the hair salon Natural Beautii in Field Street.

The salon had transformed the shop window into a festive scene with Christmas cards and letters to Santa flowing out of a glittery letterbox and a Santa sack filled with presents.

Danielle Lowe, owner of Natural Beautii said that she based her winning entry on the idea of children’s toys, and that the post box was meant to look like the North pole.

She said: “We’ve been doing for the last three years, I love Christmas so I always love putting decorations up so we always take part. It was a bit of a surprise to win, because you always think yours is the best, but I was over the moon when I found out.”

As well as the winner, Coun Poole and Coun Lennie also chose two well-deserving runners up - Vanita’s Hair Salon and Ryatt Optometry.

Coun Jane Lennie told the Echo: “It was a really tough decision because there were even more entrants into the competition and so many new and original ideas and designs.

“All the shops go to a lot of effort and we really appreciate it.

“It is brilliant and gets better every year, it makes the whole town look really Christmassy, and everyone is willing to chip in and make it a good festive display.”

About the winning entry Coun Lennie said: “It was totally new and different to all of the other entrants, and it was to a really good standard, as was were all the windows.”

“A special mention must go to the Ryatt opticians entry, it was made from recycled materials and was really eyecatching in the small space they had.”
