Company scoops coveted award for Fringe show

-

A LOUGHBOROUGH-based theatre company enjoyed a hugely successful sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and was given a coveted award.

Coily Dart Theatre Company put on eight performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Improbable New Musical; The Fringe Lozenge.

The show achieved wonderful audience feedback, five great reviews and has been awarded the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Sell-Out Laurel as it sold out for the entire run, with people queueing for returns.

Director Sue Ellerby said: “As a first time company at the Fringe, premiering our newly written show, the fact that we sold out every performance, received wonderful audience feedback and secured five great reviews has exceeded all our expectations!”

The company is very much ‘Loughborough grown’ with a cast drawn from university students, town amateur groups and the Loughborough Male Voice Choir.

Coily Dart used rehearsal space at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Trinity Methodist Church, and John Storer House, and used companies Mooli, for publicity materials, and Penny Crayon, to print hoodies.

The company is also grateful to Shepshed and District Camera Club for providing the production photography.

Prior to leaving for Edinburgh, the company performed an open rehearsal to a selection of Leicestershire-based directors, musical directors and G&S aficionados for constructive advice. Sue said: it “assisted greatly and resulted in some changes prior to our first performance in Edinburgh.”
