Music students set for live town performance

-

AN EXCITING live performance with Loughborough College music degree students is set to take place in town this week.

The free to enter gig at the Swan in the Rushes on Thursday (May 17) starts at 7pm and will showcase electronic dance music created by Jordan Eagles, Megan English, Cameron Gregory and Joseph Eden .

“This is the culmination of a year of work exploring the different ways performers use computers in their music and being inspired by them to compose a range of music embracing styles including styles techno and drum and bass,” said music tutor Matt Toole.

“Our students have created some amazing music using programmes such as Ableton live and incorporating a range of instruments. This counts as their final assessment so we are going to see some outstanding performances.”

“I am really looking forward to it,” said Music Production degree student Cameron. “I’ve been influenced by house and drum and bass and combined a range of instruments which I’ve run through the computer. I have effect pedals and keyboards and I’ve also brought in lots of samples and looping.

“This all comes together to create this synthesis that forms my set. It is like a DJ mix but I’ve composed the music and the really exciting thing is that there’s an element of creating on the go, an improvisation that means the performance is different every time.”
