Pop-up exhibition at Carillon Court
A ‘COMMUNITY Takeover’ and closing party of Modern Painters New Decorators’ latest exhibition ‘The Ground is Good’ took place at Loughborough’s Carillon Court Shopping Centre.
Modern Painters, New Decorators (MPND) - an organisation running art projects and building creative communities in the town - invited families and members of The Baca Charity who work with young asylum seekers, and the Exarieo Trust, which works with people who have been homeless, to respond to the clay and ceramics on display by making traditional clay coil pots.
The results of these workshops were then showcased in a pop-up exhibition to celebrate the diversity and creativity of Loughborough.
The exhibition ‘The Ground is Good’ featured work from Olivia Bax, Eva Masterman and Leon Sadler. The works celebrated Loughborough’s rich history with clay and showcased different approaches and new perspectives on contemporary clay practice.
Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan attended the exhibition and London-based artist Eva Masterman attended the ‘Community Takeover’.
MPND plans to continue to work within the community to curate events, host exhibitions and workshops while supporting and developing opportunities for regional artists.
Visitors can join Modern Painters, New Decorators between now and June 23, to see new drawings from Charnwood Arts’ Paul Gent in ‘Where We Live and What We Know’.
