ATC cadets on a Friday evening in Loughborough, February, 1943
THOMAS Toon of Sutton Bonington has sent in a super photograph of young Loughborough ATC members.
Mr Toon wrote in saying: This is how lean and fit teenage youth of Loughborough and surrounding district spent Friday evening during the early 1940s.
“They are cadets of Loughborough 132 Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) formed to prepare them for service in the RAF.
“They were granted the use of Loughborough College facilities. Classrooms for weekday evening instruction aircraft recognition, navigation and learning the Morse Code.
“Friday a rigorous session of PT in the college gymnasium, a shower and a swim in the college pool.
“This photo was taken during such a Friday evening in February 1943.
“Names remembered, Oliver, Middleton, Brookes etc. Flight Lieutenant Mayoss who was in charge of the unit, in uniform bottom left.” Can you name anyone? Ring Andy Rush at Looking Back on 01509 635802
