20th CENTURY BOY Theatre Royal, Nottingham, May 22-26

THE hit musical inspired by the life and death of iconic glam star Marc Bolan stars Olivier Award-winning West End performer George Maguire (Sunny Afternoon) and features a new script by Nicky Graham and Colin Giffin, plus 20 classic hits by Bolan and T-Rex. At his peak, he was arguably the biggest rock star the UK had ever seen. Rocker, poet, electric warrior, king of glam and godfather of punk, Marc Bolan became a superstar. He died in a car crash in 1977, a few days short of his 30th birthday. Expect to hear Get It On, Ride a White Swan, Metal Guru, I Love to Boogie, 20th Century Boy and many more 70s classics.

COCONUT Derby Theatre, May 19

THE irreverant dark comedy based on the experiences of writer Guleraana Mir as a British Pakistani, Coconut explores interracial and intercultural relationships.

Rumi is born and raised as a Muslim who spends more time enjoying fine wine and bacon than at the mosque - hence the term ‘coconut’ meaning she’s brown on the outside but white on the inside. When she meets Simon, a white guy, she hopes his decision to convert to Islam will be enough to keep everyone happy. But things get complicated.

The 80-minute play is suitable for ages 14 and over due to profanity and themes of violence and religious coercion.

■ ■Derby Theatre is in Theatre Walk, St Peter’s Quarter, DE1 2NF. £10 (£8 concessions), derbytheatre.co.uk, 01332 593 939.
