-

IN THE Anstey Sports Bar Premier Division old rivals Birstall Stamford and Quorn Royals met once again and on this occasion it was Quorn who came away with the points after a 5-2 win, with the Royals goals coming from Sam Kee (2), Tom Kee, Gus Gentleman and Matt Langham.

In the Sylvia Haynes Division One Anstey Sports Bar Reserves moved three points ahead of their opponents Shepshed United and into third place with a 3-0 win with two goals from Richard Sneath and a goal from Callum Ball. Burton travelled to Western Park to face League winners and cup finalists - Birstall Stamford Res. Rather like the Leicester v Spurs game that followed this game was packed with well taken goals with the lead changing at regular intervals. Birstall opened the scoring after five minutes but shortly afterwards Nikki Harvey equalised for Burton from the penalty spot. Stamford took the lead again only for Nikki Harvey to grab his second to level the scores at the interval. Goals came thick and fast in the second period as Josh Smith and Matt Panter gave Burton a 4-2 lead. Burton began to rue the chances missed in front of goal as Birstall came back strongly to level the scores at 4-4 and then to take the lead. Josh Smith grabbed his second for Burton to make it 5-5 but a quick Birstall counter attack and clinical finish late on produced the winning goal for the hosts. Birstall’s goals coming from Aaron Headley (2), Adam Parry, Ant Ward and Matt Johnson with an own goal making up the total.

In the A.B. Wallace Trophies Division Two, LK United’s games are coming thick and fast and less than two days after their cup heroics they returned to league action against Athetic Sportsman. With an ever-increasing injury list it was down to the gaffer John Concannon to don his boots for the second league game in a row. Starting the game with only 10 players LK managed to go in 2-0 up at half time with goals from Matty Harrison and Leon Coleman. Back up to the full 11 for the second half LK’s goalkeeper Matt Eltam played outfield as some players were literally on their last legs. LK scored more goals courtesy of a Mark Foster hat trick and further goals from Matty Harrison and Leon Coleman. Athletic Sportsman competed throughout and were rewarded with two goals coming from Mitchel Clarke.

On Sunday New Parks Rangers completed their season with a win to maintain their unbeaten record in the league by beating Racing Alleno 8-3, who were themselves hoping to secure runners up spot. A Wade Wright hat trick, two from Jake Tomlinson taking his season tally to 43 and goals from Jordan Cufflin taking his season tally to 29, Josh Ball and Callum Bloxham their goalscorers.

At the start of the day Verdon Athletic needed a win plus goals to overhaul Racing for the runners up spot on goal difference, and they did that in style beating the winners of the Hardings Transport trophy GNG Sunday by the huge margin of 10-3. Syston Brookside Reserves finished off their season at Loughborough Stags, a second half goal from Shaun Patterson was their only consolation as the Stags put five past the keeper.

On Friday evening LK United won the Sunday Vase at Holmes Park in a fiesty game that saw its first yellow card after just two minutes. LK settled themselves down after 10 minutes with the first goal of the game through Leon Coleman and although dominating the first half went in only 1-0 up. LK soon took control of the second half and Leon Coleman doubled their score to 2-0 on the hour. A defensive mix up saw Niffy pull a goal back to put themselves in with a chance at 2-1. LK then again dominated the half without success until the game got a more physical LK kept their composure rattled in three goals from Josh Cox, Ryan Betts and Leon Colemans completed hat trick to put the final to bed at 5-1, Niffy taking a little glory with the goal of the game lobbing the LK keeper from 35 /40 yards out to make the final score 5-2.
