Medals galore at the Aiwakai invitation­al

FIFTEEN members of Simon Coope Karate School travelled to Alfreton for the Aiwakai invitation­al championsh­ips 2018 and returned home with a hatful of medals.

The club won six individual gold medals, one silver and five bronze medals.

It also won silver in adult team fighting, bronze in 13-15yrs team fighting, bronze in 10-12yrs mixed team fighting. In kata they won bronze in the senior team, bronze 13-15yrs team and bronze in 10-12yrs team kata.

There was Gold for William Tatham in the 18 – 21yrs fighting and the 18yrs + -75kg senior fighting. Gold for Adrian Home in the +35yrs Fighting. Gold for Libby Davies in the 18-21yrs Ladies fighting as well as Silver in the 18yrs+ -61kg fighting. Joseph Simpson took Gold in the -4’8” 10-12yrs fighting and finally Gold for Emily Wardle in the 10yrs and below open grade kata as well as Silver in the under 10 years fighting.

Francesca Bloor took individual Bronze in the Senior Female Kata. Harry Williams took Bronze in the 14-15yrs Boys -63kg fighting, Joshua Whiffin in his first ever competitio­n took Bronze in the -4’8” 10-12yrs fighting. Amelie Harbour won Bronze in girls Kata 10-12yrs 6th to 4th Kyu. Finally David Barrett in his first ever competitio­n took Bronze in the Green belt to Purple Belt boys Kata.

Scarlett Hubbard, Brandon Norman and Frost took Bronze in the 12 yrs and under team Kata, while Bloor, Davis and Matthew Salmon took Bronze in the 16yrs + Team Kata.

In the team Fighting Tatham, Amy Jorgeson and Home won silver while Salmon, Verity and Williams won Bronze in the 13-15 team fighting and finally Whiffin, Frost and Joseph Ball won Bronze in the 10-12 years team fighting.
