Phoenix Pegasus setting the pace in Division One after impressive away win at Queen’s Park Queens
PHOENIX Pegasus are the early season leaders in Loughborough and District Bowls League Monday Division One following an excellent 71-45 (8-0) away victory at Queens Park Queens, and an equally good away win by Syston Fosseway 63-32 (8-0) at East Leake Willows lifted them into second place. Shepshed Rams won comfortably at home to Wymeswold Wolds 76-40 (6-2) whilst the Quorn Weavels and Thringstone Woodpeckers game was a very close affair with both sides sharing the points but Woodpeckers took the game 59-53 (4-4).
St Margaret’s Maggies are the early pacemakers in Division 2 after their 66-42 (8-0) win at home to Kegworth. There was a tight finish at Birstall where visitors Syston White Plum just edged home 47- 44 (5-3) against hosts Sands, whilst across the A6 at Belgrave home side Cygnets defeated Birstall Lighthouse 66-43 (6-2). St Margaret’s Saints travelled to Nanpantan to play Brush Peregrines and despite sharing the points they went down 43-52 (4-4).
Runaway leaders in Division 3 are Greenfields Badgers who for the second week in a row collected a full house of points defeating Phoenix Kingfishers 62-40 (8-0) whilst Sutton Bonington Riversiders are also showing good early season form after they travelled to Sileby Swallows and returned home victorious 49-43 (6-2). Rothley Crusaders are living up to their name with another close win 47-46 (5-3) at home to Brush Hawks.
Wymeswold Steamers top Division 4 following their 68-38 (8-0) win over pointless Greenfields Foxes and Belgrave Ringers also remain without a point after they went down 33-70 (0-8) at Soar Valley Tay. There was a very close game at Syston where visitors Shepshed Lambs just got the better of hosts Green & Royals 47-46 (4-4).
In the Thursday League Trophy preliminary round runaway leaders in Division 3 Sileby Swifts hosted Division 2 Quorn Millers and found life against higher opposition a little tougher, going down 62-70 (2-8) the Millers now have a home tie on July 12 with Division 1 New Lount Hares. There were rearranged league games for East Leake Willows who move to the top of Division 2 following their win against Queens Park Carilloners 107-48 (10-0) and in Division 3 Soar Valley defeated Sutton Bonington 67-63 (7-3) to move into second place in the table.
