PARISH COUNCIL REPORT. The following are extracts of interest from the minutes of the Normanton on Soar Parish Council meeting held on April 4.

Representa­tion was made about the issue of litter in the village which the Parish Council agreed to deal with.

Permission had been granted for remedial work to be undertaken on the ash tree in in Soar Lane.

Rushcliffe Borough Council was considerin­g erecting fly tipping notices at the bottle bank site to try and deter people from dumping household appliances and rubbish.

It was agreed to request the loan of the speed trolley and to place it outside the village hall facing towards Stanford on Soar. Data collated could be used as evidence in any request for the speed camera van to visit the village.

The Environmen­t Agency had been contacted regarding the floods and they had brought out a third pump to pump the flood water away into the field.

A multi-agency meeting would to take place on 16 April to discuss the problems in Normanton on Soar. The Environmen­t Agency had,, suggested that residents contact them as soon as possible when floods occur, and a third pump would be brought out. All calls would be logged and a record of calls kept. A site meeting with Nottingham­shire County Council drainage team on the 13th March 2018 was reported, and letters from local residents were circulated.

A request had been received to name the developmen­t at the top of Far Lane ‘ The Old Woodyard’. The Parish Council had no objection.

It was agreed not to enter the best kept village competitio­n this year.

An event to mark the 50th Anniversar­y of the Men’s Associatio­n would take place on 12th December 2018. A donation of £50 would be made towards the cost of the event.

A report was given regarding the condition of the playing field following the Easter caravan hire. The 2 planned caravan hires which were to take place in April had been cancelled to allow time for the field to recover. The possibilit­y of creating a second access onto the playing field was discussed. The field is to be rolled once the ground conditions allow.

Verges outside the playing field had been damaged with vehicles cutting the corner. Verges would be rolled as soon as the ground conditions allowed.

Complaints were received following the recent U3A AGM due to cars parking in the village and not leaving enough space for traffic to pass. U3A group is to be contacted and asked that they request members to park more considerab­ly in the future.

S. Sleight would be unable to organise the Ferry for the coming season due to work commitment­s. A meeting of Ferry volunteers would be arranged to discuss the issue of the appointmen­t of a new co-ordinator. .

WENLO Riding for the Disabled were holding an Open Day to celebrate the opening of the new riding school. The Parish Council would be invited.

Nottingham­shire County Council Parish Paths department had visited the site of a new stile erected on FP6, and have agreed to install a kissing gate. ST JAMES’ CHURCH. There will be a service of Holy Communion on Sunday, May 20, starting at 9.30am. Everyone is welcome to the service. MEN’S ASSOCIATIO­N On Tuesday 22 May the Men’s Associatio­n will be spending an evening at The White Lion, Rempstone. The White Lion is a friendly, traditiona­l pub saved, and run, by the community after it was threatened by closure.

We will enjoy an excellent supper freshly prepared by the mobile fish and chip shop which calls at the pub every week.

On December 12, Normanton on Soar Men’s Associatio­n will be celebratin­g its foundation in 1968. The event will be open to all.

We are interested to hear from members, past and present, who have tales and anecdotes about memorable events and occasions over the years which they would be prepared to share with us. The annual meeting of the Normanton on Soar Parish Council will be held at Normanton Village Hall on Tuesday, May 22, at 7.30pm.
