NOW in its fifth year, the Bus & Train Spectacular staged at the Great Central Railway’s Quorn and Woodhouse station by Leicester Heritage Transport Trust in association with the railway proved yet again to be a great success and very popular for those interested in heritage transport.

More than 2,300 trips were made on the frequent bus and coach services put on by the trust connecting Quorn to Loughborough’s railway stations as well as a couple of circular tours.

The event provided visitors with the opportunity to combine journeys by both buses and trains from a variety of eras.

The immaculately turned out vehicles from the trust and its members, were joined by a number of visiting vehicles including modern buses from Arriva and First, which all added to the attractions on offer.

A record number of 33 preserved buses and coaches attended the event plus a nice selection of vintage cars. More than 30 journeys were operated, many with capacity loads. Trust chairman Richard Worman said: “I am delighted that our Bus & Train Spectacular organised jointly with Great Central Railway has become such a popular event in the heritage transport calendar.

“Visitors made long journeys to get here, with Darlington, Edinburgh, Gravesend, Ireland, the Isle of Man and Sheffield being just a few of the places we know that people travelled from.

“This reaffirms our continuing decision to hold this event on a Saturday when visitors are able to benefit from the greater availability of public transport.

“Our thanks go to the owners of the visiting buses which add so much to the occasion, and for all the hard work put in by the Trust and GCR volunteers.”
