Newsagent Ger­ard Camp­bell re­tires

ONE of Lough­bor­ough’s long­est serv­ing newsagents had de­cided to re­tire af­ter 20 years in charge of his own shop.

Pres­i­dent of the lo­cal branch of the Newsagents Fed­er­a­tion, Mr Ger­ard Camp­bell, 66, and his wife Ruby, 68, re­tired from their fam­ily busi­ness in Shakespeare Street, Lough­bor­ough.

Mr Camp­bell came to Lough­bor­ough in the af­ter­math of World War Two. He be­came a fore­man/ baker at Smed­ley’s be­fore join­ing Lough­bor­ough dairies and North­ern daries.

He led an ac­tive life as a lo­cal Labour coun­cil­lor, a gover­nor at De Lisle RC School, and was in­volved heav­ily with St Mary’s RC Church.
