Newsagent Gerard Campbell retires
ONE of Loughborough’s longest serving newsagents had decided to retire after 20 years in charge of his own shop.
President of the local branch of the Newsagents Federation, Mr Gerard Campbell, 66, and his wife Ruby, 68, retired from their family business in Shakespeare Street, Loughborough.
Mr Campbell came to Loughborough in the aftermath of World War Two. He became a foreman/ baker at Smedley’s before joining Loughborough dairies and Northern daries.
He led an active life as a local Labour councillor, a governor at De Lisle RC School, and was involved heavily with St Mary’s RC Church.
