Lynne looks at Loughborough through 50 of its buildings
A NEW book, Loughborough in 50 Buildings, written by local historian Lynne Dyer is being officially launched this Friday, August 17.
The book explores the history of the town through a selection of its most interesting structures, showing the changes that have taken place in Loughborough over the years.
Lynne started writing a blog about Loughborough - www.lynneaboutloughborough.co.uk - after being trained as a Leicestershire Tour Guide.
The blog has now been going for more than five years, and its aim has always been to raise the profile of the town, attract more visitors here, and encourage folk to learn about its history, and finding connections to other places.
When Lynne first came to the town 40 years ago, she fell in love with it – the market, the fair, the buildings, the parks, and even the unkempt area around that was around the railway station and Burder Street! - and has lived here ever since, working locally at what was once Fisons, and latterly at De Montfort University, in Leicester.
Now, you can read about some of Lynne’s favourite buildings and trace the development of the town through some of its houses, shops and banks in the book.
The book is published by Amberley Books, and is available to purchase from local booksellers (Waterstones and W H Smith), as well as the publishers themselves, and online at Amazon.
It will also be available to purchase at the launch event, on Friday, August 17, from 4pm - 6pm in Loughborough’s Fearon Hall.
