Apartments plan is given the green light
PLANS to create serviced apartments in High Street, Kegworth, have been approved by the North West Leicestershire District Council’s planning committee.
The property will feature four one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments, primarily expected to be occupied by people working at East Midlands Airport and East Midlands Gateway.
Speaking at the committee, the applicant explained that as the building was in a conservation area, it was important to him that it stayed in keeping with the listed buildings nearby. He added that it was good for local economy and that the bus stop right outside the building would allow commuters simple travel to the airport.
A representative of Kegworth Parish Council spoke against the application, mainly citing concerns over parking on Main Street. It was argued that each tenant would own a vehicle and there was very limited space to park on the road.
Speaking about the decision, chair of the planning committee, Coun Nigel Smith, said: “We understood the concerns raised by the parish council about traffic and parking on the road as a result of this application.
“However, the committee had to be guided by the report from the highways department at the county council, which made it absolutely clear that they had no concerns or objections about parking on the road.”
