Whitwick U3A to stage anniversary open morning

-

WHITWICK and District U3A is celebrating a special anniversary this month.

It is 10 years since a group of people from Whitwick, Coalville and the surrounding area set up the local U3A.

To mark this anniversary, there will be an open morning to show what the U3A is all about and how it has grown since 2008.

A spokesperson told the Echo: “The motto of the U3A is “Learn, Laugh and Live!” and this is exactly what the Whitwick and District group is all about.

“The U3A is for those people who are no longer in full-time work or raising a family. By helping each other to pursue interests, keep active and make new friends, the group is thriving with a steady membership of 300 local people.”

It is hoped that the open morning on Friday, August 17, will be a very pleasant, positive and friendly occasion.

There will be displays by most of the Interest Groups which have been set up by members and light refreshments will be served.

The U3A Fun Choir will provide musical entertainment. It will be an opportunity for visi- tors and existing members to discover the wide variety of activities available and how they are organised. .

The free event will run from 10.30am until 12.30pm at St. David’s Church Hall, Broom Leys, Coalville LE67 4RL.

By kind permission of Broom Leys School, parking is available at the school. Everyone is welcome: the U3A is a non-political and non-religious organisation.

If you are retired or approaching retirement, all the research shows that keeping active, physically or mentally, is beneficial to wellbeing. Whitwick and District U3A has much to offer and you may be pleasantly surprised to find so much to do in your own area.
