Can you name the streets here?

-

THE photos of the Ashby Road, Thorpe Acre estates we published recently has certainly got some heads scratching.

The photographs were from our Looking Back archive, but held no explanation as to which streets they were exactly.

Obviously many of the council houses and streets in the area are very similar and that has led to some conflicting reports.

There was talk of the row of shops being in Hermitage Road, but it seems also possible that it is the row of shops in Thorpe Acre Estate. Both are almost identical.

Sheena Durham, 50, was the first contact us. Her parents moved to Schofield Road from Regent Street back-to-back terraces, in the 1950s.

She identified Picture No.1 as being Garendon Green, almost opposite the old Blackbird.

Sheen also said that she thought Picture No.5 was Blackbrook Road down which her old friend Lesley Rushen lived.

Another friend’s house featured in Picture No.7, which Sheena said was of the junction of Schofield Road and Sharpley Road. Sheena said her friend Julie Catherall lived at No.6 in the road.

Another Echo reader to get in touch was Su Scattergood.

Su’s thoughts on some the sites differs a little from Sheena’s.

They both agree on Picture No.1 being near the Blackbird, but Su thinks it might be Blackbrook Road. She added that she think Picture No.2 is of the Schofield Road junction with Sharpley Road, as is Picture No. 7.

Su, 68, also added that she thought Picture No. 5 was Hermitage Road.
