Wymeswold Wolds upset form book to earn a place in final of Monday Trophy against Thringston­e

WYMESWOLD Wolds and Thringston­e Woodpecker­s will contest the final of the Loughborou­gh & District Bowls League Monday Trophy on September 3 after both had convincing wins.

Wolds upset the form book with a 63-44 (6-2) victory at home against title contenders Shepshed Rams whilst the Woodpecker­s secured their place in the final with a 64-38 (6-2) win against Quorn Weavels.

In Division 1 Phoenix Pegasus moved into the top place with a convincing 71-36 (8-0) victory against East Leake Willows. Brush Peregrines find themselves relegated from Division 2 following their 43-56 (3-5) defeat at home to Syston White Plum who move into third place two points behind the teams above them.

Leaders in the Thursday Division 1 Shepshed North suffered a surprising set back in their chase for the title when they were beaten 57-65 (2-8) at home by second placed Syston Fosseway who now move to within one point of the leaders with one game to play. Both New Lount Hares and Wymeswold Wolds secured valuable wins in their battle to stave off relegation, Hares 73-53 (8-2) win at Thringston­e Rangers was the pick of the results whilst Wolds hopes of survival were boosted with a 72-56 (6-4) victory at home against Brush Eagles.

Phoenix Flyers moved back to the top of Division 2 following their 78-55 (8-2) win at Bowling Green Way against previous leaders East Leake Willows whilst Quorn Millers 75-59 (7-3) win against Queens Park Carilloner­s sends the Carilloner­s down to Division 3 next season. Kegworth kept their hopes of promotion from Division 3 alive with a comfortabl­e 86-55 (8-2) victory at Nottingham Road against Soar Valley whilst Sutton Bonington secured the majority of the points in their 62-62 (7-3) drawn game with Rothley Knights.

Shepshed Lambs extended their lead at the top of the Ladies Friday evening league with an excellent 43-18 (6-0) win at Charnwood Road against Quorn and Rothley also took all the points on offer in their 46-30 (6-0) home victory against Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s. At Syston visitors Wymeswold won a hard fought game against Fosseway 38-32 (4-2) to maintain their second place in the table.
