LOUGHBOROUGH based homeless charity The Bridge (East Midlands) has had a successful award season after being shortlisted for a number of charity and housing sector awards.

Kick starting the season, The Bridge were recognised in one of the voluntary sectors most prestigious events, The Charity Awards 2018.

This was for the delivery of the ‘Rough Sleeper Programme’ which launched in 2017 in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council.

The service works with rough sleepers, or those at imminent risk of rough sleeping to prevent homelessness, and to help rough sleepers move into more permanent accommodation.

The Bridge was then shortlisted in the final three alongside winners Volunteering Matters and joint runner up Changing Lives.

Next came the Homeless Link Awards in which The Bridge were awarded second place in the category of ‘Excellence in Supporting People’, beating over 350 applicants nationally.

The Bridge entered its young people’s services; talk2sort and the Single Access Point – a specialist mediation service for 11-19 year olds and a homeless prevention service for 16/17 year olds, respectively.

It has also been successfully shortlisted as finalists in a number of other awards which include; Housing Heroes Awards 2018 for ‘Front Line Team of the Year’ and the Women in Housing Awards for ‘Team of the Year’.

For the Housing Heroes Awards, The Bridge nominated their Customer Services Team who the charity say are the glue in ensuring that its day to day operations in the prevention of homelessness is effective.

Though The Bridge were not successful as winners in the Housing Heroes Awards, they are certainly Heroes in the local community.
