RUSTY’S RETREAT

-

Celebrity chefs are ten a penny on TV these days but there was a time when just one woman held sway in front of the camera.

Rusty Lee became famous during the 1980s when Jamie Oliver was still a young boy, famously fronting a cooking spot on TV-AM for eight years.

She later went on to present the TV show Game For a Laugh and she still makes occasional appearances on This Morning, The Wright Stuff and Loose Women.

Famous for her infectious, cackling laugh and Brummie no-nonsense presenting style, her TV appearances invariably leave co-presenters and studio guests in stitches.

Her guest spot with the late comedian Les Dawson in 1989 on TV-AM, which is available on YouTube, is guaranteed to brighten even the greyest day.

Born in Jamaica but brought up in Birmingham after moving to the city when she was four years old, she graduated from the city’s College of Food and Domestic Science as a Master Baker.

She later worked in her family’s bakery before being spotted by producers at the BBC’s Pebble Mill studios, who invited her to showcase her Caribbean culinary skills. She later moved to ITV’s TV-AM morning show.

Her long career on TV brought her considerable wealth and until recently she lived at this pretty house in Bewdley, Worcestershire.

It has four bedrooms, an orangery, a dining room, lounge and a kitchen/breakfast room. Oaklands is for sale at £699,999.
