SAY CLEESE
This luxury apartment for sale at £1.25 million proves that John Cleese is a man of his word.
The 78-year-old Monty Python funny man revealed last year he was so disappointed with the outcome of the EU Referendum that he wanted to move from the UK to the Caribbean Island of Nevis.
As well as putting his five-bedroom period home in Bath up for sale at £2.7 million, he has now also listed this property, his one-bedroom pied-a-terre in central London.
Cleese and his wife Jennifer Wade, 47, whom he married in a ceremony on the Caribbean Island of Mustique in 2012, are to relocate to Nevis this autumn.
The sale of both properties will help fill Cleese’s depleted coffers. It was revealed in 2008 that his divorce from Alyce Eichelberger cost him £12 million, prompting him to later tour a one-man travelling comedy show around the US and Europe to raise funds.
Cleese and his current wife’s London bolthole, which is off Sloane Square, has been recently refurbished and includes a south-facing terrace, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a large reception room.
The large period building comes with access to a caretaker to look after residents’ needs, a service that hopefully Cleese appreciated more than the hopeless attempts of Manuel in Fawlty Towers.
