Shepshed need only 7pts in final game to gain promotion

SHEPSHED CC 1sts were back to winning ways with a crushing defeat of Lutterwort­h 2nds.

Batting first Lutterwort­h found it difficult to generate runs with Matt Taylor bowling a superb spell taking 5 for 25 also in the wickets was Christian Booth who took 3 for 38 Lutterwort­h really struggled throughout their innings against the spin and pace of the Shepshed Bowlers and were eventually bowled out for just 118.

In reply Shepshed did not hang around, despite losing 2 wickets it was down to Andrew Gibson who smashed an aggressive 48 Not Out and once again Alec Williams who chipped in with a stylish 38 Not Out to see Shepshed home Shepshed reaching their target finishing on 120 for 2.

This was a great win for Shepshed who now sit proudly in second place and with one game to go against the same opposition Shepshed need only 7 points from their final game to gain promotion so all being well this time next week Shepshed should be celebratin­g promotion to Division Two.

Shepshed 2nds made the short trip to Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s 1sts. Greenfield­s decided to bat first and were bowled out for 197 with Mark Bonam taking 3 for 33 along with Josh Wicks who also took 3 wickets for 48 both bowlers bowling a good line and length throughout their spells.

Shepshed found it tough going against the Greenfield­s bowling but it was down to Chris Gibson who dug in to score a brilliant 97 but with wickets tumbling around him it was not Shepshed’s day as they finished their innings on 150 for 9.

Shepshed 3rds were involved in a thriller against Grace Dieu 2nds batting first Grace Dieu scored 218 for 8 with youngsters Corey Chantrill taking 3 for 39 and Charlie Stevenson back among the wickets taking 3 for 45.

Shepshed batted really well setting about the Grace Dieu bowlers with Duncan Bottrill giving Shepshed a great start hitting a quick fire 27 but it was Danny Montague who really got to grips with the Grace Dieu bowling hitting a fantastic 67 Not Out and with all the Shepshed

batsman chipping in with a score it was Charlie Stevenson scoring 24 who put Shepshed back in with a chance of winning the game.

But in the end it came down to the last over with Shepshed needing 18 to win and with Danny Montague who was batting superbly still at the crease he decided to hit two 6 Sixes leaving Shepshed with six to win but the remaining balls were just to good leaving Shepshed disappoint­ed on 212 for 9.
