Oxley Primary School pupils raising cash for special Dinosaur Day
YOUNGSTERS at Oxley Primary School are staging a special Dinosaur Day in November and are hoping Shepshed folk can help them raise some cash to help fund the ambitious project.
Teacher Danielle Palmer decided to book ‘A Life Long Ago’ workshop at the school for the pupils in Key Stage 1 which will involve fossil hunting and to top it off there will be a visit from an animatronic dinosaur in a whole school assembly.
She said staging the event is costing £699 so instead of asking parents to pay a large contribution, they decided to see if they could raise some money towards the event.
“The children wrote letters to local businesses, explaining what they were trying to do and asking if any would be prepared to support them.
“Charnwood Road fish and chip shop sent a cheque towards the appeal, the Co-op has donated a gift voucher and Nick Cann, the store manager at Shepshed Tesco agreed to stage a weekend fund-raising event, with prizes donated by store staff, which raised £235.
“We will also be doing cake sales in school to help raise money, which have so far raised £93 and our PTA is contributing too. We are extremely touched by all the responses.”
