Loughborough Ladies prove too strong for Eccles
LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN LADIES 40
ECCLES LADIES 5 LOUGHBOROUGH Town Ladies beat Manchester side Eccles Ladies and hauled themselves up to Championship North 1’s fourth place in the process.
It only took seven minutes for Loughborough to score when captain Danni Allen broke a tackle to go on a trademark 40m darting run to score and fly half Ellie Batten grabbed her second in two weeks showing great strength to get over the whitewash to double the lead and Amy Relf added the conversion as Boro closed the half 12-0 ahead.
The Town side came out all guns firing dominating at the breakdown, lineout and scrum and the visitor’s attempts to attack were frustrated with the line speed of Loughborough forcing them to kick away possession to relieve the pressure.
Boro began to play a more expansive game moving the ball quickly to the wings and it paid dividends when full back Emma Dootson scored (converted by Reif) to make it 19-0.
With Relf now pulling the strings for the home side they went searching for the bonus point try, and on 65 minutes Relf deftly stepped a defender showing a clean pair of heels to score and converted her own try to make it 26 -0.
A lapse of concentration allowed Eccles in for a deserved five points before Relf opened up the visitor’s defence with a magical dummy pass before sprinting into the created gap for her second try and again converted to take the score out to 33-5.
Back row Daphne Fromes, on as sub , claimed the last of the tries with the last play of the game when once again Boro showed great patience in attack going from left to right before a deft tip back inside saw her cutting a great line into the corner and scoring, again converted by Relf.
