Loughborough RFC ease to bonus point win
MIDLANDS TWO EAST (NORTH)
LOUGHBOROUGH 28 ASHBY 8 LOUGHBOROUGH kept up their good home form with a bonus point win over Leicestershire rivals Ashby.
A start-stop start to the game saw Loughborough lead through an outside centre Thomas Kirkby intercept try and successful conversion. Ashby then replied with a penalty to close the gap to 7-3 at the interval.
Ashby start the second half better and converted this pressure into points via a hard earned unconverted try to lead 8-7.
But Loughborough responded and used the boisterous home crowd to their advantage and lock up their defence for the rest of the game. A dominant scrum saw the referee forced to run under the posts and declare a penalty try and lead 14-8.
Fly half Greg Biddle then caledl an elaborate backs move that seemed to completely fool the Ashby defence as they all took a different man to defend, forgetting Greg was the one with the ball as he scored a converted try to extend the lead to 21-8.
Finally Ashby had some field position, which would lead to Greg Biddle being punished with a yellow card for slowing down a ruck, but their insistence on playing wide would be their downfall as centre Jacob Abraham intercepted a pass and ran 70m to score under the posts and secure the bonus point win.
To cap a great day, the 2nd XV also secured a bonus point home league win against Lutterworth 2nd XV 37-17.
