Carillon ‘A’ sunk by last quarter strike

CARILLON A 0 CARILLON were slow to start, struggling to maintain possession of the ball and unable to breach the Wigston defence.
As the half progressed Loughborough seemed to pick up their energy with more movement in the middle. By the end of the first half Loughborough seemed to be in control of the game with most of the possession, this wasn’t without the intermittent threat of the Wigston attack, threatening to score from quick counters and some well worked short corners.
Loughborough continued the second half as they ended the first. Maintaining possession and playing well. The pressure from Loughborough didn’t lower the Wigston spirit.
They continued to defend solidly and withstand the pressure from Loughborough. They then had an attacking spell of their own. Similar to the beginning of the game, Wigston shut Loughborough down at any opportunity.
They had multiple threating attacks; one of which resulted in a well-earned goal from a short corner at the beginning of the last quarter of the game. This late goal spurred both teams on to play with great intensity and passion. The final quarter showed multiple threating attacks and solid defence from both sides.
At the end of the thrilling 70 minutes with both teams having played well, creating a competitive and tantalisingly close game, there was only one goal to separate the two sides. Wigston the victors of a great game of hockey.
