Medal success for town swimmers

SIXTEEN Loughborou­gh Town swimmers made the journey up the M1 to race at Ponds Forge, Sheffield in the Glyn Mettam Memorial Meet and returned home with 25 medals after some great performanc­es in the long course event.

Josh Ley-Sneyd (15) secured his first regional qualifying time in winning the men’s 50m breaststro­ke. He also finished second in the 100m breaststro­ke in a personal best time and reduced his previous best in the 50m freestyle.

The 10-year-old girls were on top form with Niamh Muddimer and Elizabeth Palfrey taking first and second place in both the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. Palfrey also won the 100m backstroke and was second in the 200m Individual Medley and fourth in the 50m butterfly.

James Lake (11), medalled in all his events placing second in the 200m Individual Medley, third in the 100m butterfly, 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke and fourth in the 50m backstroke. Willem Muddimer was second in the 50m butterfly and fourth in the 50m breaststro­ke and 100m freestyle.

Bronze medalists were: Francesca Palfrey (12):100m butterfly, Harrison Cook (12): 100m backstroke and Hattie Smith (14): 100m backstroke.

At the City of Leicester Open Meet which also took place over the weekend, Abbie Ruddle swam to a regional qualifying time in the 50m freestyle and Thomas Chamberlai­n reduced his previous best in the 100m backstroke.
